The lecture session will address endodontics from both an advanced perspective and from a restorative point of view. The key in making endodontics profitable is being able to do cases consistently well and in manner that leads directly to the final restoration.
Doing a root canal with destruction of tooth structure makes restoration challenging if not impossible. In this presentation, Dr. Koch will emphasize the concept of linking endodontics with restorative dentistry and will demonstrate how important it is to be “living in the world of a constant taper” when performing rotary instrumentation.
A completely intuitive way of instrumenting a root canal (the Blend Technique) will also be discussed, as well as an update on bioceramic technology. Direct and indirect pulp caps as well as perforation repair will all be fully discussed.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion, you will:
- comprehend the endo-restorative relationship and describe the latest techniques used to achieve predictable success.
- have a thorough understanding of the multiple advantages gained by doing a constant taper preparation technique.
- be able to evaluate the changing paradigm in endodontics and realize that adult pulp caps potentially have a place in select endodontic cases.
- be able to predictably perform the Blend Technique in both simple and advanced cases.
- have a more thorough understanding of the many virtues of a true bioceramic cement and hydraulic condensation.
- be able to successfully use a piezo-electric ultrasonic unit for finding hidden canals.
The afternoon hands-on session confirms concepts introduced during the morning lecture. The Blend Technique will be introduced clinically, and a demonstration will be given concerning how to properly use heat treated and non-heat treated files rotary files.
Hydraulic condensation will be performed by all attendees and Dr. Koch will work with each individual doctor. As final validation, all participants are encouraged to instrument a tooth or block while looking directly at Dr. Koch, not the canal!!
Please bring any accessed extracted teeth you may want to work on…

Contemporary Endodontics for Recent Graduates & Refresher Course for Dentists: This presentation is geared toward the recent dental graduate who feels somewhat intimidated by endodontics. Most undergraduate dental schools have such busy curriculums that minimal time is devoted to clinical endodontics. Consequently, this session will be dedicated to such issues as practical diagnosis, the importance of straight-line access, when to refer, how to achieve profound anesthesia, minimization of iatrogenic errors, various instrumentation techniques and obturation options. This lecture will also help those experienced clinicians who still have questions about an individual technique or concept. This presentation will include a robust Q & A session.
Learning Objectives:
- Conceptualize endodontics in a more circumferential manner and have a better comprehension of what well done endodontics can accomplish for their patient.
- Have a more thorough understanding of diagnosis, instrumentation, and obturation.
- Be able to diagnose and anesthetize “hot teeth.”
Precision Based Endodontics: This lecture will address endodontics from a restorative point of view and will take the participant on a journey that begins with endo-restorative concepts, then leads into access and three-dimensional ultrasonic cleaning. This will be followed by an introduction to the “Blend Technique,” which combines both heat-treated and non-heat-treated rotary files in an intuitive fashion. The session will conclude with an in-depth review of advanced bioceramic techniques in endodontics.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how rotary file design influences instrumentation safety and efficiency.
- Comprehend the advantages of heat-treated files.
- Understand how to best use heat-treated files
Real World Endodontic Training Hands-On Workshop: This hands-on session is a natural follow-up to Dr. Koch’s lectures. The presentation will begin with a brief review of the “Blend Technique” and then Dr. Koch will do a hands-on demonstration. She will demonstrate how to properly use heat-treated and non-heat-treated rotary files as well as demonstrate the best way to obturate with bioceramic technology. Participants will have the opportunity to use enhanced magnification and Dr. Koch will personally work with each individual.
Learning Objectives:
- Predictably perform the Blend Technique in both simple and advanced cases.
- Have a more thorough understanding of what causes the separation of rotary files.
- Comprehend how to prevent separation of rotary files.

Nearly 30 years after the introduction of Nickel Titanium Rotary Files to endodontics, we’ve learned much about the clinical strengths and limitations of
these great instruments. As a result of recent improvements in metallurgy, enhanced designs, and innovative rotary file motions, we now need to understand
how these changes affect clinical instrumentation. Furthermore, we must take advantage of these improvements to create an instrumentation protocol that
combines Safety with Simplicity.
We now have both heat-treated and non-heat treated rotary files. They each possess different properties and both have indications for use as well as
limitations. At Real World Endo, we believe these improvements should be employed to their utmost advantage. Consequently, we have developed a blended
technique that combines the advantages of both heat-treated and non-heat treated files into one Awesome Endodontic Technique!!!
In this hands-on workshop, our “Blend Technique” will be introduced and participants will learn how to use it effectively in all root canal types. After attending
this workshop, you will improve your instrumentation predictability while dramatically reducing instrument separation. Furthermore, a simple yet effective
obturation method will be introduced that combines the latest in material science with endodontic synchronicity for passive, bonded root canal obturation.
All participants will have the opportunity to validate these concepts during the workshop. Get ready to improve your instrumentation predictability and gutta
percha cone-fit while dramatically reducing instrument separation. Real World Endo remains dedicated to the preservation of the natural dentition.
